Mother charged following death of child

A MOTHER has been charged following the death of two-year-old Rio Smedley in Bolton.
Kirsty Smedley, 23, from Bolton, has been charged with allowing or causing the death of a child.
She appeared before Bolton Magistrates' Court today and is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court, Crown Square tomorrow.
At about 5.45pm on April 22, police went to a house on Cheriton Drive, Breightmet, following reports that Rio had gone into cardiac arrest.

Merritt Wins 110m Hurdles Gold

United States' Aries Merritt has won the gold medal in the men's 110m hurdles.
Merritt stormed to victory in 12.92s, the fastest time in the world this year and just 0.01s off the Olympic record set by Liu Xiang in Athens in 2004.
Team-mate Jason Richardson took silver in 13.04, with Jamaica's Hansle Parchment taking bronze in a new national record of 13.12s.

Bob Hoskins Retires From Acting

Bob Hoskins is to retire from the acting world after being diagnosed with Parkinsons disease.
The 69-year-old star - whose career spans four decades - has starred in Hollywood hits such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit and homegrown underworld classic The Long Good Friday.
His agent announced he was withdrawing from acting after a "wonderful career" and would be spending time with his family.

Joan Rivers Slammed For Princess Dianas Death Joke

Comedian Joan Rivers has suffered a backlash from British viewers after she quipped about Princess Dianas death.The 79-year-old comic artist shocked British viewers on Friday when she made a "tasteless" jibe at the late Royal on a British-themed episode of her late-night E! talk show, 'Fashion Police."If you ever want to go to Paris, fly don't take the tunnel," ABC News quoted her as saying.
The comment was in reference to Diana's death in 1997 when her car crashed in a tunnel during a high-speed car chase.
The usually outspoken comedian was critiquing the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, wife of Princess Diana's son William, when she made the joke.
Her comment even shocked fellow hosts, and Brits Kelly Osbourne and Cat Deeley.

Tom Cruise has been making the most of his time with daughter Suri by taking her to Disney World.
The Mission Impossible star was snapped strolling around the theme park in Florida with the six-year-old, who was dressed as Disney Princess Ariel.
Tom, 50, was all smiles and showed no sign of the strain of his split from Katie Holmes, who filed for divorce in June after almost five years of marriage.

Computer Game Helps Rehabilitate Stroke Victims


The Circus Challenge game, created with a computer game studio, aims to help patients recover motor functions. Players use wireless controllers to perform virtual circus acts such as lion taming and plate spinning. It is hoped the PC-based game will serve as a cheaper and more effective alternative to existing treatments, with patients able to play at home. Read........
